Understanding Knee Arthritis.

Knee replacement is most often needed because of arthritis. Arthritis means the knee joint is worn out or damaged, making everyday activities—like walking, climbing stairs, or even resting—painful.
If you experience persistent pain that affects your lifestyle, despite medicines or simple measures, you may be a candidate for knee replacement.
Common causes of knee arthritis:
- Age-related wear and tear (degenerative arthritis)
- Injuries to the knee
- Rheumatoid arthritis or other conditions
Before surgery, we ensure patients are healthy, fit, and free from any infection in the body.
Pre-Surgery Preparation

To ensure safety, a set of standard tests are done before surgery:
Blood tests – to check sugar, kidney and liver function, hemoglobin, infection markers, and clotting profile
Urine test – to rule out infections
Heart tests – ECG and 2D echocardiogram
X-rays – standing and movement views of the knee, sometimes chest X-ray or scanogram
MRI scans are not usually needed unless there is a special concern.
Additional tests (like lung function or stress test) may be advised if required.
Risks & Safety
- The risk of serious complications is less than 1%. These may include infection, blood clots, wound issues, or heart complications. To keep you safe, we take multiple precautions before, during, and after surgery. If there is any infection or fever, the surgery is postponed until recovery. Will I need a blood transfusion?
Usually no. A transfusion may be needed only if both knees are replaced at the same time or if your hemoglobin is low before surgery.
Advanced Techniques We Use
- We focus on techniques that improve recovery and reduce pain, such as:
- Mini-subvastus, tourniquet-free knee replacement
- Painless protocols with modern pain blocks
- Blood conservation techniques
- Computer-assisted or robotic surgery when needed for complex cases
Types of Knee Replacement

We offer:
- Partial Knee Replacement – only the damaged part of the knee is replaced
- Total Knee Replacement – the entire joint is replaced
- Revision Knee Replacement – correcting or redoing a previous knee replacement
